Interview - Steven J. Doi, Esq.

On
June 13, 2000, Steven J. Doi, one of
San Francisco’s most distinguished and civic-minded
citizens, received the Kunsho, The Order of
the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Rosette. |
This high honor is conferred
by His Majesty, the Emperor of Japan, to both Japanese and
foreign citizens twice a year in recognition of their contribution
to mutual understanding, and the promotion of better
relations and friendship between the Japan and other
countries.
The
Award was presented to Mr. Doi in a private ceremony at
the
residence of the Consul General of Japan, Mr. Nobuaki
Tanaka in
San Francisco.

Along
with the Award, the Consul General presented Mr. Doi with
the Patent of Decoration, a proclamation signed by the
Japanese Prime Minister, Yoshiro Mori, with the Seal of
State being affixed to these presents at the Imperial Palace
on April 29, 2000.
Joyce
Millet spoke with Steve Doi about the Kunsho, his
lifetime of work in the community, and his early childhood
in an internment camp in Heart Mountain, Wyoming during the war.
